Doctors in Mexico revealed the details of a remarkable life-saving surgery performed on a 24-year-old woman who had been living with a massive ovarian cyst weighing more than 33 kilograms.
The condition had grown so large that it occupied nearly her entire abdomen, making it difficult for her to walk, breathe, and even eat normally. According to the medical team, her health had reached a critical stage and she was at serious risk of heart complications if the condition continued to grow.

The surgery was carried out at Mexico General Hospital by surgeon Dr. Erik Hanson Viana, who described it as one of the most extraordinary operations of his career.

“This is the largest cyst I have personally operated on,” he explained. “It covered about 95 percent of the patient’s abdomen and measured nearly half a meter in diameter.”

Doctors also noted that the growth was removed intact without being drained first — something considered extremely rare in procedures of this kind.
Despite the challenges, the operation was successful and completely changed the young woman’s life. Just days after surgery, she was already able to walk again with greater ease.

Months later, doctors confirmed that she had fully recovered. She no longer needed mobility assistance and was finally able to return to a normal daily life after years of physical discomfort.

Medical experts say the story is an important reminder about the value of regular health checkups and paying attention to unusual changes in the body. Early diagnosis can often prevent serious complications and improve recovery outcomes.
